About the Nippon Slag Association

Iron and steel slag products evolving in the age of the environment

The Nippon Slag Association aspires to be an organization that connects the abundant possibilities of iron and steel slag products and society.
In October 1978, a group of 20 iron and steel manufacturers and companies that produced and sold iron and steel slag products established the Nippon Slag Association by dissolving and reorganizing its predecessor Japan Slag Association for further development. For more than 40 years since then, the Association has worked to promote initiatives such as improving the quality of iron and steel slag products, developing technology to apply them, and obtaining official recognition under the guidance and support of its stakeholders.

Because of stakeholder guidance and support, iron and steel slag products are used in a wide range of applications, including materials for cement work, road construction, civil engineering, port and harbor work, and concrete aggregates. So far, these products have achieved a recycling rate of approximately 99%, and the Association is proud that it can play a role, albeit a modest one, in helping improve social infrastructure.

In recent years, which are called the age of the environment, there have been a wide range of initiatives among manufacturers to develop products effective in improving the oceanic environment, for example, as expectations for iron and steel slag products rose amid the growing social demand for recycling with less environmental impact.

The mission of the Nippon Slag Association as a pioneer in recycling is expanding as it strives to become a forerunner that further leads in the field of environmental sustainability. The Association, which promotes iron and steel slag products that evolve in the age of the environment, aims to fulfill the function of connecting the abundant possibilities of iron and steel slag products and society for the future.
